Files did not sync
Topic by michael munson
Summary
not all files did not sync'edContent
I have several folders and individual files that did not sync.
From what I've read here in the forums, it looks like I should reset the sugarsync manager. I'm concerned about what that means (shift+control+R) and if this will cause any damage to the associations of what is sync'ed or anything else.
I rely on sugarsync to sync files - and I'm not sure how to "force" the files to move from pending to actually syncing.

Sugarsync,XP, server, connectContent
I posted the question two weeks ago, and still I didn't get any response from them.
I think I waited enough for their response, so I'm posting to get more response and solution.
Is there anyone who has the same problem like me?
This is the problem I got.
I installed the sugarsync in my Windows XP computer. But, I can unable to connect the server.
I already made the exception for Sugarsync in the Windows firewall. But, it doesn't still work after the setting.
I repeadetly shows the popup error message that "SugarSync can't connect to the server, and try later".
I attach my log file for your reference. Please let me know what the problem is and how to solve.
I can still access Sugarsync by web browser (like explorer)
thank you very much for your help in advance.

After starting, SugarSync hangs, spinning ball of death (SPOD) on Mac 10.6.7Content
This is a copied summary from this Post: http://sugarsync.hivelive.com/posts/20fd9fe94a/comments
"When I resume from when the laptop is suspended (sleep mode). CPU is almost nil. Cannot start up the SugarSync manager. When I put the mouse pointer over the icon on the menu bar I get the SPOD."
Same here. Just that it does it anytime Sugarsync starts automatically or I start it manually.
Your Community Manager Amanda answered:
"Hi Eric-
I just heard back from Mo, the support tech who helped you out. I'm so glad the issue was resolved.
In case others run into this problem on a Mac, please check the following in SugarSync Preferences:
1. Make sure that Auto start SugarSync Manager when my computer starts up is selected in General Preferences.
2. If possible, select the No proxy (direct connection) option in Connection Preferences."
I /can not/ enter the program. At all. So there's no way to play with the preferences in Sugarsync. Yes, I have downloaded, uninstalled and installed the newest Version.
Proxies are turned off in General Preferences, Sugarsync starts automatically at Startup.
I just bought a new subscription and I don't want to have to demand a refund because I can't use it, so please help me with this issue.
Greetings
Marc

Why do I need to sync?Content
Oh, just a bit confused here. I chose SugarSync as a cloud for a long term storage solution, as it is supposed to work "seamlessly" with my Fujitsu ScanSnap. I scan bills and documents straight to SugarSync and into the structure of cabinets and folders I have created there. This, in hopes of cleaning out my overflowing filing cabinet. It's working quite well thus far.
A couple of things are bothering me:
1. When I scan a document I select the path directly to SugarSync and the appropriate cabinet/folder. Is the scanned file also being saved on my computer? I thought not, and had hoped the SugarSync cloud storage would free up precious hard drive space on my little Toshiba netbook. Also, there is the issue of the hard drive taking a dump. I trust that any cloud service might be more reliable than my little hard drive. Maybe? From what I read, a scanned file is being stored somewhere on my hard drive, as well. True? If so, how can I stop that?
2. "Syncing" to various devices so they all will be identical, leads me to believe files destined for the SugarSync cloud are also saved locally on each device. I have SugarSync on both my iPhone and iPad, but only so I can find, read and print files stored on the SugarSync cloud. I don't get the point of syncing when I only want to use a cloud for off-site storage. What is the advantage of syncing for me? Also, there is the "mysugarsync" folder. Supposed to do something with syncing... mine is empty. Why?
Perhaps I should have read more before selecting a cloud service, but it was recommended for my scanner.
Any enlightenment is greatly appreciated!

Some files corrupt after downloading (2 Comments)

Some files are corrupt after downloading them on a second computer (WinXP) with SS 1.9.15.Content
Some files are corrupt after downloading them on a second computer (WinXP) with SS 1.9.15. The uploaded file is ok: I downloaded it from the website and it was identical to the original file. But the download via the XP client is corrupt. I have 4 corrupt files out of about 100000 - not many but too much!
They all seem to have a "header" added to the beginning of the file, the first two bytes read as "SC", and the end of the file is truncated so that the file size stays the same. Maybe something from the internal transfer protocol?Ticket: 110125-000234 |
2.0: don't understand how to duplicate one desktop with another
Topic by Elise Gravel
I used to keep my tow macs a complete duplicate of each other, but I don't know how to do that anymore with 2.0. It seems like I have to manually select each folder I want to sync; plus, I have no clue how to get my desks to mirror each other. I want exactly the same desk on each computer. How do I do that?
Upload Speed Slow (5 Comments)
Topic by Rodolfo Gomez
Summary
My Upload speed is very slow. Is this typical? What upload speeds are you seeing?Content
I'm new to SugarSync (SS). This morning I started backup/sync/upload of a 6.76 GB folder (115,000 files) at 9:30 AM - it's now 8:00 PM (10.5 HOURS) and the uploading of these files is nowhere near complete – it appears to be halfway done. I have verified several times today my 10 Mbps upstream connection – it's fine. SS's documentation says 1 GB of data over a 10 Mbps connection should take 15 minutes. That means my upload should have been done in less than 2 hours. It's now looks like it's going to take 20 hours. This is quite a discrepancy and not nearly fast enough to manage an ever changing 100+ GB store.
I would like to hear from others and see if these speeds are typical?

Sugarsync says it's syncing but it isn't doing anything and the files never show in the cloud.Content
I installed sugarsync on a new Mac Mini runing Mountain Lion. I set up a small test folder to sync just to the cloud with only 3 small documents in. SugarSync shows it's syncing in the menu bar and in the status of the sugarsync File Manager. But it's not doing anything at all - stays that way for days.
I've uninstalled using the special uninstall script, reinstalled. Still the same. The Firewall is off.
Driving me crazy - as I want to sync my documents folder with my work machine and my MacBookPro, but if this machine can't even sync 3 small pdf files to the cloud how will it ever cope with the 1,000 of files in the documents folder.

Folder Move Question (7 Comments)
Topic by Nate
Summary
How does Sugarsync handle a folder move? And how is the best way to execute it?Content
If I have a large chunk of data in a couple of folders, and I want to move those folders to a different location, how does Sugarsync handle that? Does it delete from one location then re-download at the new location? Or does it actually move the folders? I'm asking because I have a large chunk I'd like to reorganize, and it includes subfolders as well as main/synced folders, and I want to do it the best way possible to avoid duplications as well as other issues. Should it be done from one of my computers? Or should that originate from the website first?
Thanks!

Having some bandwidth issues... (52 Comments)

UL/DL rates with sugarsync are pretty abysmalContent
I also submitted this information in a ticket, but i wanted to see if the community had any thoughts.
i'm a recent defector from DropBox, for a couple reasons...well, really SS is better in every way(pending this ticket), but i'll get to the point.
My upload speeds don't seem up to par. I have the slider set to "high" and my connection is capable of 30Mbps upload nationally and at least 10Mbps internationally to near anywhere i could find. DropBox has been able to take full advantage of this. My average upload speed to SS is ~250 KB/s, or 1.5Mbps. Is this a limitation of the free account? I have every intention of upgrading, but this was one of the items i wanted to explore before i paid up.
heres a speedtest.net result to SF, where i think you guys are located. (Data centers aside)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1173727580.png
Dunno why the download from that server is so terrible, but the upload speaks for itself in context.
and i recently added an addendum:
i recently found this: http://speedtest.sugarsync.com/ which is exactly in line with my originally linked speed test results, ~30Mbps up/12Mbps down. I also found this page, https://sugarsync.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/52/~/time-required-to-upload-files, where it states that free accounts are limited to 50% of their max bandwidth. I didn't believe this to be the case, as i have read the contrary in several places. Furthermore, the 1.5Mbps connection i am seeing would not be 50% of 30Mbps.
So, i figured i would remove one variable from the equation and went ahead and signed up for the 30GB one month trial. I restarted my computer, restarted sugarsync client, and made sure the account status was updated. Speeds have not been affected...and i also just realized my download speeds are nearly identical. So basically, my upload speeds are about 1/20th what speedtest.sugarsync.net suggest, and download speeds about 1/5th.
For reference, uploading the same files (i'm using one test file repeatedly, but have tried others) to dropbox and google docs yields ~15Mbps up and ~5Mbps up, respectively.
Thanks for the help!

Can't access synced files over local networkContent
I have a computer 1 (winxp home) syncing over the net with sugarsync to computer 3 (win7 ultimate). On the same network as computer 1 I have computers that havea access to the synced files via windows simple network sharing. These computers on the same network as computer 1 do not have sugarsync. For some reason when I try to access the sugarsync'd filed, "access is denied". Does sugarsync lock these files to nonsugarsync computers?
